Hey guys! I wanted to share with you a poem that I have recently come across. It provides a powerful message that is increasingly important in today’s time poor and success driven society, rushing from one seemingly important task to the next. The poem is called Slow Dance and was written by David L. Weatherford.

I urge you to have a read, but more importantly take some time to think about what it means to you, your family and your journey in business, work or life. I hope it provides some inspiration to you, as it has provided to me.

Slow Dance

By David L. Weatherford

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round,

or listened to rain slapping the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight,

or gazed at the sun fading into the night?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,

time is short, the music won’t last.

Do you run through each day on the fly,

when you ask “How are you?”, do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed,

with the next hundred chores running through your head?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,

time is short, the music won’t last.

Ever told your child, we’ll do it tomorrow,

and in your haste, not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch, let a friendship die,

’cause you never had time to call and say hi?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,

time is short, the music won’t last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere,

you miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,

it’s like an unopened gift thrown away.

Life isn’t a race, so take it slower,

hear the music before your song is over.

My Thoughts on the Poem

This poem struck a chord deep in the reasons I chose to start my journey in the online business world. It comes down to two main reasons for me, Family & Life.

I found myself getting very caught up in the success driven expectations of my career, something that I had personally set upon myself. It came to a point though that I felt that I was just existing, not living! All my focus was on achieving career success, that I left very little time for family and meaningful enjoyment of the world we are so lucky to live in.

I had to make a change, slow down and correct course. I needed to take the time to get my creativity back, my fire within and discover what my true priorities and dreams where.

The message I have taken from this poem, rings true with these reasons and the change I made. I am on an alternative pathway now, creating a lifestyle that will allow me to take the time for family and life.

Whatever Pathway You are on…

I hope that by sharing this poem, it may spark a thought for you to check in on your life, and ask yourself—are you taking the time?

Please share your story or thoughts on the poem in the comments below, as it just may spark the inspiration in someone else!
