Hey guys! So here’s a little something I wanted to share with you today that I feel is so crucial to giving yourself the very best chance of achieving success!

Success Word CloudThe 6 C’s of Success has been adapted from Peter Voogd’s book the Entrepreneur’s Blueprint to Massive Success, so I can’t claim credit for the concepts. I have added my own interpretation and commentary to the C’s in a way that I relate to it and use it, and I hope it does the same for you!

I found that each of the C’s forms the cornerstone to a foundation of habits that has been crucial in bringing me on the right path. It has enhanced my energy and productivity, but most importantly my consistency in progress.

Below I will share with you each of the 6 C’s of Success as Peter describes it in his book, and a little on how I have tried to implement it in my life. My recommendation… take each ‘C’, interpret it, and action it in a way that best works for you!

(1) Clarity

Define what I want to achieve and be crystal clear on my goals and reasons for those goals

So I’ve found that having clarity is a big thing! It is very easy that when we are unclear on what we want to achieve and why we want to achieve it, we can be fumbling around for weeks, months or even, God forbid… years, without actually really achieving something. Acting on the recommendations in the book, I have been writing down goals and reasons for these goals for the next year, next 90 days, next week and today.

Breaking the goals down to the level of today, allows me to literally get stuff done on a day by day basis, because without it I find it is very easy to “waste” a day! To do this, I took another recommendation from the book and I have included it into my morning routine by writing in my diary or on a piece of paper:

  1. What are you most looking forward to today?
  2. What are you most grateful for today?
  3. What is the one thing that you need to get done today no matter what? (This one is usually business related or if I need to do something super important for myself or family)

Then I go a step further, and write:

  • The top 1-3 things I need to do work wise? (This could be your day job if you are moonlighting as an entrepreneur, or other business tasks for the day if you are already into it)
  • The top 1-3 things I need to do personally? (Like making a call, booking an appointment, chores or following-up on something)

When I first started implementing the 6 C’s I made my top goal for the next 90 days actioning success habits, because I knew this would give me the best foundation for succeeding moving forward! Something I should have done earlier, but better late than never!

Doing this goal setting habit gave me clarity on exactly what I wanted to achieve both in the short term and most importantly, today! Now I am executing and progressing on a daily basis.

(2) Confidence

Make decisions that drive my confidence

In the book Peter talks about having a confidence account, which is like a bank for your confidence and each decision you make either builds it or takes away from it. I interpreted this as pretty much making the choices that give me energy, health or progress, rather than taking it away.

For example, if I am deciding whether I should do exercise or not because I “feel” tired.

  • Decision – do the exercise because it will boost my confidence, make me feel better and improve my health. If I didn’t, my confidence would have dropped, I would have felt more tired, and if I did it often enough my health would drop too.

Or another example, I’m thinking maybe I should stop working on my business now so I can sneak in a quick episode of Game of Thrones before bed, even though I made the commitment to do business tonight.

  • Decision – continue working on my business and get what I want to do, done! I’ll feel like I would have achieved something and made progress, and there is no motivator better than progress. If I didn’t, I would have had fun watching TV sure, but it would been followed by an overwhelming guilt sucking my energy and confidence.

I’m not saying don’t have fun, after all we are trying to design a lifestyle worth living… I’m saying when you commit to something do it! Whether it is fun, work or fun work (yes that does exist and you know it!)

It is important to establish your success habits and execute them with ruthless commitment!

(3) Circle of Influence

Who I associate with is who I become

With this one I haven’t really had friends or people I associate with that bring me down or negatively impact me in a major way. I have naturally steered away from those things anyhow. What I have done here is tried to stay away or minimize activities and people that take away my energy, don’t improve me or lift my level of thinking.

Time is just too precious to be wasted with activities and people that don’t improve you in some way and help lift your mindset of success. Now that’s not to say I’m completely selfish and don’t give back to others, I have a massive love for helping people (one of the reasons I created this website) and you need to give first before you take. I’m just saying that you have to be selfish with how you assign your time, and consider how using it is going to help achieve your goals.
Consider your energy, consider your health and value consistent progress! You need to move away from the people who take it away and seek out the people who provide it. Lift your circle of influence!

Let me share with you my ultimate influencers, those achieving and thinking at a level that I aim to reach: Tim Ferriss, Gary Vaynerchuk and Seth Godin. Are your influencers achieving at a higher level than you in an area that you want to go? Awesome, share with us who they are (and they don’t have to be famous or popular)!

(4) Consistent Energy, Inner Drive and Motivation

Consistency in work drives motivation

One of the biggest motivators is progress, and there is definitely no progress without action. So I consistently action and execute, doing stuff that progresses me or my businesses. Now that’s not to say I am constantly moving, writing or typing all the time, you need to take the time to take a step back and think. Have a balance between thinking, planning, learning, and actually executing and doing.

On the flip side of this, something that I haven’t been doing as well until recently, is doing the actions and habits that drive motivation and energy within me. There are certain things that you do each day that either promote energy or laziness, and it comes back down to the number (2) C above, your Confidence and making decisions that increase it.

Now I have implemented a morning routine, because that gives me energy to start the day. I made a big change to jump up on the first alarm ring, because that literally kick-starts my day rather than lazing in for 2-3 snooze buttons (check out the 5 Second Rule, where Mel Robbins talks about outsmarting your brain with a 5 second decision). I have also recently started eating fresh veggies for lunch (cucumber, carrot, capsicum, tomato) because I feel lighter and fresher throughout the day, and having a heavy lunch kills my energy. And the final thing I’ve introduced is trying to drink heaps more water… I drink 3 full glasses each morning during the first 30mins after I wake up (it used to be just 1, if that!).

(5) Create Result Rituals

Perform the highest value activities that produce the most results

I’ve taken this as meaning doing the activities and rituals that help you produce the best results in your business and life. One of the biggest things for me is a morning routine and the other is consistent exercise. Yes I know! Both are completely unrelated to business activities… but are they!?

It’s all about creating energy and motivation, which comes back to the number (4) C above, Consistent Energy. Both Richard Branson and Tim Ferriss (and I’m sure many others), suggest that working out is one of the biggest productivity boosters!

From what I have read, all the most successful people in the world have a morning routine that they execute with ruthless commitment. So I did just that! I used to have a morning routine several years ago, but that went away in recent years and now I have it back better than ever!

What we mean by routine, is not just that you get up and do the same thing each morning, is that you incorporate specific things that best prepare you for the day. For example, here is a breakdown of my routine:

  1. Wake Up on the First Alarm Ring (many mornings I don’t “feel” like it, but I count 5-4-3-2-1… UP!)
  2. Wash Face, Brush Teeth
  3. Drink 2 Glasses of Water
  4. Exercise – 15mins of push-ups, ab roller and squats (this gets the blood pumping)
  5. Drink 1 Glass of Water
  6. Meditation/Breathing Exercise (this clears my mind for the day, gives me a fresh slate)
  7. Writing Out My Clarity Goals for the Day (see the number (1) C, above)
  8. Breakfast
  9. Get Dressed
  10. START!

On the other side of the day (late afternoon), and something that has been badly inconsistent for the last year, is exercise after my day. I have now made the commitment to do at least 30mins each day in the afternoon, usually around the 4-5pm, and this gets me pumped for the night.

Figure out what rituals, habits and activities give you the best results in your day and do them consistently. Make them a part of your routine, and it will be easier to stick to it. Share with us some of your best rituals, we might pick something up that will help us all!

(6) Continual Growth and Learning

Continually learning, growing myself and reaching out to people achieving higher than me.

Ever since I embarked on my journey in online business I have been listening to audio books, related to business and success, whenever I am driving in the car. I also research and consume content online that is related to what I am trying to learn at the present moment.

I have made the commitment to do focused learning for at least 30-60mins each day. By focused learning, I mean reading or listening to stuff that is directly related to what I am trying to achieve in the present moment. I run on the principle of ‘just-in-time’ information, rather than ‘just-in-case’ information, because it makes sense for effectiveness to do the learning for present goals. You can then save and categorize the other useful stuff for later so you can come back to it when needed.

In terms of reaching out to those achieving higher than me, I don’t really have anyone I can directly ‘physically’ reach, at least in the direction I want to go. Instead, I have been reaching out on social media, following people and subscribing to newsletters of those that are achieving at a higher level and are where I want to be. This way I absorb their content, thoughts and recommendations, which means I start being influenced by them and develop a better mindset… a success mindset!

So there you have it, the 6 C’s of Success as Peter Voogd describes it and how I have interpreted it. I have incorporated the C’s into my routines and habits to improve my mindset, my health and my energy, because I definitely need it!

What a great post on success you have here. I’ve never heard of the six Cs of success, but they made sense when you explained them. All of the things you mentioned are important to building and maintaining success, and I like that you also have an Action column at the end. 🙂
