Hey guys! I would like to share my all time best audio books for business list with you today.

These books have provided inspiration, education, productivity and success lessons, which have more than helped along my journey in the online business world.

By sharing them with you, I can hopefully point you in the right direction for some great learning and inspirational sources.

Headphones

I wanted to suggest audio books, because I think it is a very cost and time effective way to “read” or rather listen to new business books. Purchasing an audio book is typically cheaper than buying the same book in paperback or hardback, and it gives you the added benefit of being about to do other activities while listening to your book.

Most of my listening is done while driving in the car, so I am able to really maximize my usage of time for learning and growing myself. After I listen to a book, if I love it, I then go out and buy the physical copy to put in my study for later reference. If the book wasn’t useful, I simply exchange it for another audio-book free!

This is why my top recommendation for listening to audio books is using Audible, and you can check out what Audible is and how it works in my separate post. It is free to sign up for a 30-day trial and you get 2 free audio books with that.

If you give it a go and audio books in not your thing, no problem, you can find the equivalent paperback copy in Amazon Books or other bookstores! Plenty of options to get same result.

An Important Thing to Remember When Consuming Books

Headphones, mobile and notebook are great tools for recording what you learnt.

One of the biggest mistakes I made when first starting out and getting into business books was that I simply read/listened to them and then moved onto the next. The missing part was implementation! I did not implement enough of the lessons and suggestions during or directly after finishing the books.

Now this was not to say that I didn’t action anything. I did start my first online business from the steps in The 4-Hour Work Week, and applied some of the principles learnt in other books to this business. However, mostly I missed out on executing some of the key habits, productivity and mindset changes that would have allowed me to achieve much more to date!

Peter Voogd talks about mastering something before moving on in his book The Entrepreneur’s Blueprint to Massive Success, and this is exactly what I didn’t do. Consuming lots of books definitely brought me up the curve very quickly, but finding that balance between learning and implementation would have helped a great deal.

Please remember my mistake and be better when you consume your books. Listen and read the books that are relevant to your goals at the time, and action the learnings in a focused and intentional way. This is called the just in time information principle and it will help you be more effective in your work.

The List

Right, let’s get into the good stuff. I have listed my top recommend audio books for business below and provided a bit of a linked category menu so you can navigate to the stuff most relevant to you right now.

I will always be listening to new books and adding them if it makes my best books list, and by the same token if you come across something awesome, please let me know about it! I’m always keen to add new books to the wish list and I will get onto listening to it upon your recommendation!

If you have any comments about the books you have read or listened to, please add it to the comments section at the bottom of the post. It will be great to hear your thoughts, good or bad!

Enjoy!

General Business and Getting Started

This category lists the business audio books to get you started or to give you a general understanding of business related topics like marketing, management and branding.

Most of these books are directed towards the alternative pathway of online business, as opposed to a brick and mortar business, because I am fascinated with the ability to create an income for yourself that is separate from your time. In other words, creating something with a lot of work up front and then having it bring income in while you pursue other endeavors!

Now that’s not to say you can’t build up a physical business and put a management team in place to run the business for you (similar outcome), it typically requires more capital to go down this pathway. Lessons can be drawn from these books and applied to either pathway… you do what’s best for you!

We are all marketers in every aspect of our lives! Why? Because we are always selling ourselves and our story in one way or another. This section lists the best books for understanding how marketing works in the modern world and helping you to develop a story that resonates with your target audience.

Forget the old methodology of mass media and interrupting people, because this method no longer works in a time and attention poor era. You need to look at creating remarkable products with an authentic story in order to gain the precious attention of your audience and make an impact.

Hi Sven,

I love your site and this article is right up my alley. I love learning everything I can to improve upon myself and my business.

Questions, out of your list here, which book would you recommend reading/listening to first if they are just starting out in developing their online business?

Great stuff. Keep up the awesome work!

    Sven · October 25, 2017 at 9:18 am

    Hi Steph,

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement, and great to hear you are into self-improvement and growth too!

I believe the key to success in starting your online business is laying a foundation for success, so first up would be for those starting out to improve their daily routines and habits… working on themselves and beating the competition internally before you beat the competition externally. I talk about it in my guide to starting you online business, therefore would recommend one of Peter Voogd’s books – The Entrepreneur’s Blueprint to Massive Success.

Then when they get down to executing the steps of starting an online business, Tim Ferriss’ book – The 4-Hour Work Week, provides an excellent structure for starting your first online business and helps you to keep in mind that you do not want it to become just another job!

Thanks for the question, comment and good luck in your endeavors!

    Cheers,

    Sven.

Trying my hand on audiobook for the first time here. I am in the midst of starting an online business and these titles seems very relevant to what I am doing.

I am particularly interested in the $100 startup. Before, I always thought I needed to invest in multiple programs/software to get the business going, but after much analysis, I figured out it’s okay to bootstrap. So I am curious to know what those case studies are like.

    Sven · November 2, 2017 at 11:50 am

    Hi Cathy,

Welcome to the Online Business World! An exciting time for you I’m sure!

Yes the $100 Startup is an excellent read/listen, in fact, I am currently re-listening to it to refresh the lessons learnt. In addition to the case studies, the author (Chris), goes to the extent of breaking down the critical parts of each “micro-business” which resulted in its success. It forms a blueprint for you to start your own business, at minimal capital investment.

If you ever need any assistance with your online business, please feel free to give me a shout. There is also an excellent internet business training platform that can support the bootstrapping pathway!

    Cheers, Sven.
